The bottom line
Nationwide’s deposit accounts were recently acquired by Axos Bank, which provides the accounts for Nationwide members. The Axos Bank and Nationwide partnership offers customers a variety of online options, including an interest checking account — with no monthly fees — that reimburses up to six ATM charges a month.
Customers also have access to top notch rates on a one-year CD, which has a 2.70% APY, attractive yields on three- and five-year CDs and decent yields on its regular savings account. To compare savings rates at online banks, take a look at NerdWallet’s best high-yield online savings accounts.
Best if: You’re looking for free checking that pays interest or a one-year CD that earns stellar rates.

Ratings methodology
NerdWallet’s overall ratings for banks and credit unions are weighted averages of several categories: checking, savings, certificates of deposit or credit union share certificates, bank experience and overdraft fees.
Factors we consider, depending on the category, include rates and fees, ATM and branch access, account features and limits, user-facing technology, customer service and innovation.
The stars represent ratings from poor (one star) to excellent (five stars). Ratings are rounded to the nearest half-star.
