Cathay Pacific Group is an airline based in Hong Kong, with passenger and cargo flights to more than 200 destinations in Asia, North America, Australia, Europe, and Africa. The airline was founded in 1946 by two former Air Force pilots but is now known by savvy travelers as having some of the best airport lounges available, particularly in its Hong Kong hub. If you’re a fan of airport lounges, a Cathay Pacific lounge — or one of its partner locations — is likely worth your time. Here’s everything you need to know.

Like most lounges, the Cathay Pacific spaces and partner locations offerings vary by airport. Most of these lounges offer complimentary food and drinks, newspapers and magazines, workspaces, free Wi-Fi, washrooms and more.

Locations

Cathay Pacific operates and partners with more than 100 airport lounges across the world. There are lounges available to Cathay Pacific travelers in Asia, North America, Australia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In the U.S. alone, there are Cathay Pacific lounge partners in Boston, Chicago, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.

Cathay Pacific-operated lounges are located in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Manila, Bangkok, Penang, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Melbourne, Frankfurt, Paris, London, San Francisco, and Vancouver.

Hong Kong for the win

While all of the lounges that Cathay Pacific partners with offer plenty to enjoy, the airline’s Hong Kong hub features four standout lounges operated by the airline: The Wing, The Pier, The Deck, and The Bridge.

• The Wing first-class space is separate from the business-class space. It features private cabanas with serviced showers and private attendants, spa treatments, day beds, and workspaces. The Wing also offers first-class travelers a luxury restaurant called The Haven, a champagne bar, and separate workspaces.
• The Pier also separates its first-class and business-class offerings. This lounge has day suites complete with private workspaces and reading lights. The Pier also has spa services, exclusive alcoholic beverages in The Bar, and more.
• The Deck offers workspaces, spacious views of the airport from an open-air balcony called The Terrace, a noodle bar and shower rooms.
• The Bridge offers baked goods, a nice view of the tarmac from its Long Bar, shower rooms, workspaces, and much more.

Now that you’ve heard about the lounge offerings, you likely want to know how to get in. The entrance requirements depend on which Cathay Pacific lounge you want to visit. While Cathay Pacific previously allowed Marco Polo rewards members to pay to access select lounges, that option is no longer available. Here’s a breakdown on accessing the airline’s lounges in Hong Kong.

The Wing

First-class lounge: First-class customers plus one guest; Diamond members of the Marco Polo Club; Emerald members of the Oneworld alliance.

Business-class lounge: First-class and business-class customers plus one guest; Silver, Gold, and Diamond members of the Marco Polo Club; Sapphire and Emerald members of the Oneworld alliance.

The Pier

First-class lounge: First-class customers and one guest; Diamond members of the Marco Polo Club; Emerald members of the Oneworld alliance.

Business-class lounge: First-class and business-class customers plus one guest; Silver and Gold members of the Marco Polo Club; Oneworld Sapphire members.

The Deck

Go Marco Polo

One way to gain access to Cathay-operated lounges and partner lounges is by joining the Marco Polo Club, Cathay Pacific’s rewards program. There are four levels — Green, Silver, Gold, and Diamond — and each comes with different perks. As with any rewards program, the more points you earn, the more offerings are available.

Oneworld, too

Cathay Pacific is a member of the Oneworld alliance, which includes 13 airlines. Certain elite members of the Oneworld alliance can earn access to Cathay Pacific lounges and partner lounges. To qualify, you must have Oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status, or be traveling in first class or business class.

The bottom line

Cathay Pacific lounges offer luxury perks that frequent travelers will likely appreciate. The limited ways consumers can access those lounges is both a positive and a negative. Although the restricted access keeps the lounges from becoming too crowded, it also places the lounges out of reach for many consumers.
